Uelzena in Bismark - Production of high quality butter

The Altmark-Käserei Uelzena GmbH was founded in 1991 as a subsidiary of Uelzena eG and initially started with the production of various types of cheese as block goods. In 1997 the production of German Premium Butter was relocated from the Uelzen site to the Bismark site with its newly inaugurated, state-of-the-art butter making plant.

Altmark-Käserei Uelzena - Production site for Butter and Cheese

Today, there are approximately 100 employees working in production and administration. At this site we produce blocks of semi-hard foil-matured Gouda-style and Edam-style cheese, which is then distributed by marketing partners exclusively to the food industry. The adjoining butter making plant has a production capacity of up to 26,000 tons per year. In a two-shift operation we produce German Premium Butter in various sizes, as portion packs, in packets, sticks and blocks for wholesalers and retailers, the bakery trade and the food industry. Uelzena Ingredients, a division of Uelzena eG, is responsible for the marketing of the products to industrial customers mainly from the baking and confectionery sectors.

Range of butter products for further industrial use

Our Premium German Butter is available as cultured butter or sweet cream butter and along with this, we also produce butter with carotene and mixed fats, theat means butter with added vegetable fats at the Bismark site. The products are packed in cardboard boxes (10kg or 25 kg) with liners or provided as 2.5 kilogram sticks to suit all industrial needs. Our 10 kilogram block wrapped in film that comes without a cardboard box is very handy and easy to unwrap. For our customers all over the world, Premium German Butter is a synonym for butter of outstanding quality.

Investment in modern milk fat technologies

The new butter production plant has been equipped with the latest technological features, which are constantly being adapted to new standards. Efficient and hygienic production conditions have been taken into consideration with the design of our milk reception area, the size of our cream ripening tanks and the integration of a continuous butter making line, just to name a few. The raw materials, the production processes and the finished products are all monitored by a certified quality management system in our own laboratories which guarantees safe production and consistent product quality.

Sustainable production at Uelzena Bismark using regional raw materials

As a cooperatively organised group of companies, sustainable dairy farming and milk processing is particularly important to us. Most of the raw materials to be processed at our Bismark site, namely raw milk and cream, are collected by our member dairies from the nearby region and delivered fresh every day. Short transportation routes are friendly to the environment.

Over the past few years, we have invested heavily in resource-saving production. For example, we have built a gas-operated, energy saving co-generation plant that supplies the company with electricity, heat and steam. The newly introduced energy management system was certified according to DIN ISO 50001 in 2012. Nevertheless, we still continue to pursue one of our most important goals, which is the reduction of emissions and less use of resources.
